The Grand Sphinx - Quest
This quest is not too hard to do if you are careful and if it is not in or close to Godlands. All of the Sphinx's shots hurt, he has minions called Horrid Reapers whose shots hurt as well. In order to do this in a small group you have to do a lot of dodging even if you are potted. If you are in Godlands the best way to do this is to clear the area of gods first.
Try to keep away from the Horrid Reapers to avoid their shots. They move in random patterns not straying too far from the Sphinx. The Sphinx will go invulnerable when he is flashing Green and this flashing also signals his attack pattern changing. All his shots pierce so you can't use anyone as a meat shield, your best defense is to dodge using a combination of backing away and side to side and use any cover you can find.
Pot Drops - WIS, VIT
Item Drops - Helm of the Juggernaut
Dungeon Portal - Tomb of the Ancients (roughly 50% chance to drop)
Level 15 to level 20 - no stats potted
In small groups, you probably should reconsider and not do this quest because if you get hit by even 2 to 4 shots you can die. As a ranged class you need to use all the limited cover you can find to avoid his shots. Don't forget the Horrid Reapers which will try to force you out of cover. As a short ranged class, you have to get close to do damage but your risk goes up lots. If you are in Godlands consider taking a pass on this quest.
In a large group, the Sphinx won't live very long so your margin of safety (an illusion) is better but watch the shots and minions.
Level 20 - at least DEF potted
Potted with at least Max DEF will help you here allowing you to stay in the fight longer. As a 4/8 or better you will be able to beat down the Sphinx faster getting your soulbound as you do. Watch for his changing attacks, watch for those minions and if in Godlands you have the added fun of either dodging shots from random gods or taking the time to clear them.
A large group is going to kill the Sphinx fast, so if you want a chance at soulbound for the elusive Juggernaut then you have to concentrate on avoiding incoming shots and putting the hurt on the Sphinx.
Notes on Classes:
Rogues - Upotted or potted, cloak as you get close put the hurt to him. Back up when your cloak is about to expire and repeat.
Assassin - Time your attacks shortly after he starts flashing green, throw a few poisons to land as he comes out of his invulnerable stage. If you can get in a few hits it will help with your soulbound.
Piercing classes - The only real benefit is allowing you to shoot through any minions that appear in front of you. Keep your cursor on the boss, move around avoiding his shots and minions.
Huntress with Ctrap - drop your trap slightly away from the boss. The plan is to trap the minions allowing you to have some alone time with the Sphinx.
Knight - Stun the boss, wait for 3 seconds and repeat all the while pounding on him. Keep the Sphinx stunned by chain stunning.
Mystic - Used your longest duration Orb and stasis the Horrid Reapers. Use the curse to lay more damage down on the Sphinx.
