Hi, I'm Bluenoser
I've played this game since March 2012, I have learned a lot of things that help me and a lot things that can hurt me. I wanted to try to help new players and players that are struggling. I have put together lots of tips, tricks, suggestions and demonstrate some of the ways I play that may help you play the game better. Since I started I have watched Youtube videos, watched the "Pros" and everyone else to see how they are playing. I wanted to stop my stupid deaths and live longer. Let me tell you that I am still having a lot of stupid deaths, my mistakes almost always result in a 6/8 or higher tombstone (they are so pretty).
I can honestly say that every time I die its always my fault. If I am a Rogue and someone comes in behind me, well I should have backed off or been more watchful. If I teleported to someone in God Lands and that person was fighting a "God wall" and I die, well I should have Nexused immediately. If I had been more careful and checked to see who I was teleporting to (Warriors and Knights are usually in the thick of it) I may have picked someone else to TP to. If I was teleporting to an event I should not have picked the spot on top of the event but just outside the event so I don't get shot gunned. If was suffering from armor break I should have backed off to safety and not pushed forward. If I am in a Tomb "deep sanding" (slowed) and a friendly BES, NUT or GEB is coming over for a chat I should have just left (I mean really, who wants to talk to them). If I am rubber banding or some other form of lag I should have just left the realm and played when the lag was not as bad. Oh yes, and the ever incredibly stupid move of chatting to someone while in a very dangerous area. Yes I have done it, so has just about everyone else. Its been a while since I died to a chatting death, but when it happens I feel very silly.
After I got my 40th star I decided I wanted to get the coveted white star. At that point it took me about 3 months to get my first white star, yes I said first. I got my white star in September 2012 then in October 2012 the Ninja class came out and I got the white star again about a week later.
I am still an active player and I try to keep the guide updated to reflect the current version of the game. I invite you all to comment on the guide and my Youtube Channel please subscribe if you like it, say hi in game if you want. Please, enjoy the guide.
Many people have asked where my name Bluenoser came from. Those of you that are from Nova Scotia, Canada will know the name. For those of you that would like to know a bit of speculation on the term Bluenoser please go here.

About the guide
I know that the guide is quite large. I am always working on it and trying to make it easier to read and find the things you are interested in. I will not (for the most part) recreate information that can be found on the RotMG wikis. Most of this guide will be content on how to play the game from my perspective. Some may find it helpful and some may not.
It has been pointed out that there are lots of grammar and spelling mistakes. As you may guess the sheer volume of content makes it hard to be perfect. I will fix the mistakes as I come across them or if someone sends me a realmeye message about a problem. If you would like to send me a realmeye message with the link and the copied line where the problem is I will look into fixing it.

Realm of the Mad God: The Introduction
Ways to play this game
I have been playing this game for awhile and there are a lot of misconceptions about what is the correct way to play this game. Lets clear the air right now about what is not allowed. Hacking, cheating and duping are against the legal agreement you signed / agreed to when you started playing this game. (Don't remember signing it? Well in order to start playing this game you agreed to the terms whether you read them or not)
If you want to spend a lot of your time trading items and pots, let no one tell you that is not how to play the game. If you want to spend endless hours in a fame train, that too is just fine. If you want to spend your time just farming pots and and hoarding your loot, more the power to you. Perhaps you just want to do a little bit of trading, farming fame, farming for loot and that is perfectly ok. Some people get their kicks helping out others, some like to run a guild looking for their definition of the "Best" people to be in their guild. Let no one tell you that any of these ways to play are wrong.
You will find some people that look down on those that spend time trading almost exclusively or even spending time in fame trains. Don't worry about it if someone tells you its wrong. You are doing nothing wrong, the idea of this game is to have fun. If you are being hassled don't fight back, just mark the poor bugger ignored. See my section Keyboard Commands below to learn how to ignore someone in game.

Keyboard Commands that you should know
The commands that are shown below that start with a slash (/) are chat commands. To use them you have to first hit the enter key to start the chat bar at the bottom of your screen. Once chat is started enter the command as shown below.
- If there is something that does not make sense or you would like to see added please click the link for Bluenoser's realmeye.com messages and post a message. Just drop a note and say hi otherwise.
- To send me a realmeye message you first must log in to realmeye.com. This is really easy to do if you never have done it before, click the login button and follow the instructions on the login box. The password request is via MrEyeball, simply use your character and enter the following command /tell mreyeball password. MrEyeball will respond with your login password.
- If you find this guide useful please let other people know about it who may also find it useful.
- Never ever give your character's email address to anyone! Your ROTMG email needs to be private, never ever give it out. This is one of the ways you can get hacked. If you have created your character with the email you use in real life then you should create another email for your real life that has nothing to do with Realm of the Mad God and give that one out.
I can not say this loud enough. People that get hacked are generally signing up for something related to RotMG, using hack clients or downloading something RotMG related from a suspicious site.

- Link to a Japanese Realm of the Mad God Wiki. The grammar may seem a bit weird but I think that is mostly due to the translation to English.

Realm of the Mad God: The Introduction
- It is a free to play, fast paced MMO that has a very large user base. You can select one of 14 characters to play, create helpful pets, search for loot, kill gods and run several different types of dungeons.
- The game is called Realm of the Mad God, and it is located here. This is a flash based game that can be played from your browser. There are a few other interfaces that you can use to play this game such as Steam, Kongregate and Flash Projector. You can find more information about the Flash Projector in the Realmeye Wiki
- If you have never played this game, it is a blast, highly addictive and free although it can be enhanced by purchasing items with real money. This game is not a Pay 2 Win or Pay 2 Play game despite being able to purchase some items. The majority of the people play this game without spending any money at all. The items you can purchase are mostly aesthetic or are minor and temporary enhancements.
- This is a Perma-death game, which basically means, when you die you lose everything you had on you and your character starts again from scratch. The only exception is your pet which lives in the pet yard and always finds its way back there when your character dies.
- This game is designed to KILL YOU, and you will die and die and die and .......... die some more, if you don't like this style of game you should find something else to play like a zombie game where you battle with plants.
- It sucks when you die ... but recovering from death can be easier if you are prepared. Save a few items or STAT potions in your vault to buy things for starting a new character.
- As a rule of thumb, the closer to the center of the map the harder it is, there are several exceptions so be aware of your surroundings.
- Killing Gods will get you STAT potions and fame.
- STAT potions (otherwise known as pots) are the currency in the game. The DEF pot is the main unit. See my section on Trading for more information about pots as a currency.
- There are set levels of Fame to reach which will unlock other character classes. When all classes are unlocked the accumulation of Fame can be used to help feed your pets.
- Youtube has tutorials on how people have done dungeons and quests. Watching these are a good source of information and the knowledge can save your life.
- Please remember that this game is an online game and you are dealing with real people. While I am not privy to the age range of the people that play this game, I can tell you that I know of people playing that are as young as 6 and I have talked to people in their 60's. While sometimes the new people (lets call them Noobs) can be frustrating with their lack of knowledge and the things they do, please remember that all people should be treated with respect. No one likes getting told off or swore at, specially if they do not know what they are doing wrong. Please be patient, talk to them, tell them what they are doing wrong. Point them to this guide, google "Bluenoser RotMG guide" works or Bluenoser on realmeye.com. If that does not solve the problem then perhaps resort to /ignore "person". We could all do with a little more respect. You were all young once and maybe still are, help these people don't treat them badly. Thanks.

RotMG Terms / Slang
- AFK - Away from keyboard. If you are in a realm or dungeon and you need to be AFK, please use the /pause command. There are a lot of sad witless idiots out there that like to drag monsters or gods to a person that is AFK to kill them. Don't let it happen to you.
- Anchor - An Anchor is when someone stays in a safe place while others rush to get to the objective. If the rushers get into trouble then they will Teleport to the Anchor. The person designated as an Anchor should stay in the safe spot until the anchor is no longer needed. The Anchor should never /pause his game because when he does no one will be able to TP to him.
- Dirty - You may hear Dirty Pentaract or Dirty Skull or Dirty "something else". A Dirty Pentaract is one that has spawned with lots of Gods around. This is extremely dangerous and if you are a new player you should avoid the area.
- DPS - This means Damage Per Second that your character can do. There are formulas that show how to calculate your DPS on the RotMG Wiki if you are interested. DPS is calculated using the DEX, ATT and Damage of the weapon that is being used as well as any modifiers from ability items, rings, and armor. The higher your DPS the better chance you have of getting a soul bound drop.
- Drops - This simply means any bag be it brown, pink, purple, blue, light blue, red (activated using loot drop potion) or white that drops from a dead monster or God. Brown and Pink bags are considered public bags, which means everyone can open them. Every other colored bag is seen only by you, no one else can open them.
- FFA - Free For All. Generally means that there is no plan for attack. The group is just going to beat on the boss(es) as they come across them.
- God Wall - This is usually a large and tight group of gods that form up when melees (and other classes) are fighting deep in God Lands. This can be very dangerous for those that wander into it.
- Godlands - This is where the realm gods hang out waiting to kill you. There are two different areas, one is completely white with snow and the other is grey with boulders. Godlands is generally but not always in the center of the map. There may also be more than one area for Godlands.
- Gold - The only way to get gold in this game is to buy it with real money, there are little coin like kiosks located in Nexus that you can purchase Gold from. Gold can be used to purchase in game items such as backpacks, cloths, dyes, pet food and other items.
- LOL - Laugh out loud.
- Melee - Most people agree that this term refers to the 3 sword classes. Paladin, Warrior and Knight.
- Merching - This just another term for Trading or Buying & Selling although some people refer to Merching as trading for maximum profit. In this case you will find that unless you are lucky it will take longer to get the price you are after.
- Mule - This is a character from another account that is typically used to store items only. This character should not ever leave nexus. Since the Duping during the v11.1.0 update you are advised to level up your mule to Level 4 and I would recommend going right to level 20.
- Muledump - Muledump is a program that was created to help manage your mules. It shows what you have and which mule it is stored on. It has features that can help you plan for character suicides to get your 5 class stars, go to my Fame Farming guide and see the section Get the White Star and be like Bluenoser
- NPE - New Player Experience, essentially means that you are starting a character without any help from other people or items that you may have from another account. People sometimes like to get back to the basics and start over or use an NPE as a break from their other player account.
- O1 or O2 - O1 is short for the Oryx that you battle in the Castle. O2 is short for the Oryx that you battle in the Wine Cellar.
- Over Damage - This is a term that some people use when they have attacked Oryx (or other boss), done a lot of damage and did not get anything. Over Damage is a myth. Yeah, I am being controversial, but follow my reasoning.
- With every monster that drops items you have to get your soul bound damage in to trigger a drop. Then, the game calculates to see if you actually get a drop. When the game decides that we get a drop it also calculates what we get and it could be anything on the list of items that will drop for that boss or monster.
- When you are in a group attacking Oryx there is no guarantee that you will get a drop.
- The only time you get a guaranteed drop is when you are solo and manage to kill Oryx. But, the game still decides what to give you, and that may be something in a purple bag.
- I have attacked Oryx and Oryx 2 with maxed Knights, Warriors and Wizards with WC or UT Tops. These classes are some of the best damage dealers in the game. I have piled on the damage to Oryx 1 and 2 and sometimes I get nothing and other times I get something. When I get something, sometimes its in a purple bag and sometimes its nice stuff. That is why I believe that Over Damage is a myth.
- Then on the other hand I could be talking out of my Ancient Stone Sword. XD
- PM - Private message, sometimes called Whisper. This is using the /tell "insert name" command. Only the person in the /tell can see your message if he is on. This is also a good way to find out if someone is on, if that person is not on, the chat will say "person not found". PM chat text is in light blue.
- PPE - Pro Pet Experience, Pet Player Experience, it is basically the same thing as the NPE except you are using your normal pet which can be a huge advantage.
- Rainbow Pots - This term is used to indicate the pots SPD, WIS, DEX, ATT but not normally DEF, VIT, LIFE or MANA.
- Realmeye.com - This is a web site that tracks player, guild statistics, progress and is used for trading. It also has a pile of other features that are very helpful. Go to Realmeye.com for more information, don't forget to login (completely free) for the full featured website.
- Rushing / Rush - Rushing simply means going fast to the objective, and avoiding all or most of the monsters along the way. This can be very dangerous and should not be tried unless you have max SPD and DEF or are very experienced. Once the rusher reaches the objectives the people that stayed behind usually Teleport to the rusher.
- Rolling - Create a new character and level him to 20. Check Realmeye.com, hover the mouse over your character's STATS and look for the +/- on each stat. The more HP points you have the easier and cheaper it is to max his HP with Life pots. If you are under the average or not happy with your current HP points then you will suicide that character and restart him. Keep doing this until you get the HP points you want. This is called Rolling. If you have good items on him don't forget to store them before suicide.
- RotMG - short form for Realm of the Mad God.
- RWT - Real World Traders. You will see characters advertising items for money. You are taking a risk every time you buy something from a RWT. You could spend your money and not get the item. Once you have a potted character, for most items they sell you can farm enough pots in a few hours so that you can trade for the item you want at the USWest server or on Realmeye.com. There are a few exceptions of course.
- RWT Mules - I ask you not to buy anything from a RWT but if you do, never ever and I mean NEVER re-use the mule they use to transport your purchases to you as one of your own mules. They own the email address and will change the password on the mule at their convenience and you will lose the items you have on their mule.
- Scammy - Cursed Amulet of Zombification. Many people that are been playing this game for quite awhile know that the game used to have an Amulet of Resurrection that would bring you back to life if you died while wearing it. This amulet was replaced with the Cursed Amulet that causes your dead body to become a zombie and a non-playable character. The players in the game started referring to this amulet as the Scammy because its stats stayed the same as the Resurrection amulet except that when you die, you are dead.
- Shotgun - When a boss such as Oryx, Oryx 2, Tomb bosses and some others fires his main attack, people refer to this attack as the shotgun. When most of these bosses fire their main weapon, if it hits you completely you are dead even a maxed Knight can't take a full Oryx shotgun to the face.
- Soul Bound (SB) - When you have killed a God or other monster sometimes it drops a bag that you can pick up. A brown colored bag is one that everyone can see and anyone can grap. Any bag that is not Brown or Pink is Soul Bound to you. That means only you can see it and collect the items that are in it.
- ST - Short for Set Items or Special Themed Sets (your choice) that make up the many special character items. If the 4 items for a Themed set are put together (Weapon, Ability, Armor, Ring) they will generate a larger (16 bit?) skin.
- TP - Shortened form of Teleport.
- UT - Untiered. These Untiered Items can be some of the most powerful items in the game. This items drop in soul bound bags and the really good ones drop in soul bound White bags.
- WC - Wine Cellar, the wine cellar is unlocked by the Incantation key (INC) after you kill Oryx.
- WC Tops - These are usually the best tiered items in the game. They are items dropped by Oryx the Mad God 2 in the Wine Cellar.
- XD - Extreme smiling
Keyboard Commands that you should know
The commands that are shown below that start with a slash (/) are chat commands. To use them you have to first hit the enter key to start the chat bar at the bottom of your screen. Once chat is started enter the command as shown below.
- R and F5- This is the escape to NEXUS and will save you in your time of need, learn to use it. There is also a programmable HOT key to escape to NEXUS in the OPTIONS menu.
- /pause - Sometimes you may want to pause your game to do something ... such as go to bathroom or eat something, get a drink send a text message, say hi to your family because they have not seen you since you started playing this game ... you know real life stuff. If you open your chat bar you can type in /pause to pause your game and to unpause the game, enter the same command again. Know that to pause there can be no enemies close by or it won't work and you still have to respect the 20 minute time limit with no movement before RotMG kicks you out of the game.
- /invite "insert name" - Use this to invite people to your guild if your window is full of locked people and you can't select the person you are trying to invite.
- Page UP and Page Down keys - Chatting to people is part of the community and can be great fun but sometimes the Chat text scrolls by too fast and you can't see what someone was talking about. Use the Page UP key to go back through the chat history. Page Down key will go the opposite way.
- /tell "insert name" and TAB key - If you want to send a private message to someone use these keys and only the person named in the /tell will see the message. All private messages are in blue text. If you are talking to more than one person, pressing the TAB key repeatedly will cycle through all the private names you are talking to.
- /g - This command will start the guild chat that all of the people in your guild will see in green lettering where ever they are. Only people in your guild will be able to see this message.
- When you see people chatting you can right click on their name (lower left side in the chat area) and you are given a mini chat menu that shows Whisper and Guild chat if they are in your guild. It is very useful.
- /ignore "insert name" - If there is someone that is harassing you either verbally or by trade requests or perhaps is being a nuisance to other people such as spamming on the chat text. Type in /ignore "insert name". Now you can't see their chats or trade requests. Life is good.
- /lock "insert name" - Locks a player to your locked player list. If this person is in the same realm or area as you they will appear in the lower right hand player window.
- /trade "insert name" - To trade directly with someone that you can't find or is a moving target, use this command with that persons name.
- /tutorial - This command starts the tutorial which provides good information for new players and also provides at least 3 HP and 1 MP pots every time you run the tutorial.
- /nexustutorial - This command starts the tutorial from the Nexus area which is the 2nd half of the /tutorial. This provides at least 1 HP and 1 MP pot.
