Pot your DEF
People always ask me the following questions;
1. What stat should I max? Max your DEF first. Then drink any WIS, DEX, SPD, ATT and VIT you find. You may want to save your LIFE and MANA.
2. Should I drink the pots as I go? NO, save 25 DEF, drink it all at once. Then drink any pots you find.
3. How do I farm pots fast? There is no real fast farming method. Well, hit the dungeons as much as you can. Once you have any character at 4/8 or better he will farm faster. He farms faster mainly because he has max DEF, some stats maxed helping you to stay in Godlands longer, not having to nexus as often and slowing down the dying process. Check out my Trick to getting rich page for more information.
Why potting DEF is more important than getting Top Armor
You will get more value using DEF pots to max your DEF statistic than you would if you were just to buy really good or great armor. I have listed the top 3 normally tiered armors for the 3 types armor groups. I show the DEF bonus and the approximate price of these armors. Below I show an example of why using DEF to max your DEF stat is better than getting the best armor.

- Do not have your main character drink the DEF pots until you have enough to max DEF. Once your main character has max DEF you can now use him to farm for pots. Any pots that you find now, if that stat is not maxed then drink it.
- Any DEF you get after you have maxed DEF, either convert it to the pots you need or store them for the next time you die. When I say convert I mean either trade using Realmeye trading or trade with someone for the ones you need.
- But, I recommend that you store extra DEF until you hit at least 25 DEF stored. Trust me, you are going to die.
- Don't worry about the really great equipment, but be satisfied with the good equipment because its cheaper and almost as good ... and you are going to die.
- Did I tell you to store your extra DEF? You need to do that, this is where people go wrong. People decide to spend their pots on the really good equipment instead of making sure they have enough pots stored to quickly recover from the DEATH that is inevitable. You are going to die ... soon!
- You should not worry about the really good equipment until you have at least 25 DEF stored for your next character because max DEF is the most important thing for you to be successful. If you can't afford it you should not ever buy WC Tops, because you are going to die.
- Something that really really bugs me are people going around wearing really great equipment such as WC Tops, but they do not have their DEF maxed. This is crazy, the really good equipment if it is WC Tops is worth way more than 25 DEF and will not protect you even remotely as well as your maxed DEF and just 1% or 2% equipment. If you are lucky enough to get the top equipment from Oryx or Oryx 2 you might consider selling it for the going rate and keep or use the pots.
- I really respect people that are playing with maxed DEF and just plain good equipment. For example, A wizard with 25 DEF, Dia, Moon, DSphere and Para-HP, is just plain awesome. Pot the DEX, ATT, SPD, WIS and VIT and you will have a great Wizard with lots of staying power that your Pet will love healing and perhaps MP healing.
- Get into the habit of making sure you have 25 DEF stored (maybe even 50) and never ..... EVER touch it unless you die, because you are going to die.
- Plan for your future character, save DEF. Having max DEF makes everything easier. Forget about the pros or the advanced players that tell you do DEX first. As a new player or recently broke you are here reading this guide to survive and become better. Lets face it, DEX won't save your life, but DEF might and you will feel pretty silly having maxed DEX but not DEF ... when you die.
- Max DEF, Save extra DEF, you need to store 25 pots to max anything but a Knight. You will die and probably soon.
- Have I said the phrase You are going to DIE too much? Nope, many people forget it or believe that it won't happen to them because they are maxed DEF and perhaps a few other stats. Well, you are going to die and probably soon.
- This game will kill you, sometimes its lag, sometimes you did something stupid, sometimes someone else contributed to your death or sometimes you just die for no real apparent reason. Oh yeah, did you die because you did not have any HP pots? Just saying ....
- You are going to die soon, deal with it! But, you saved 25 DEF and can now move onto a new and fresh character right after you get to level 20. Better save another 25 DEF because you are going to die again ... But, hopefully not too soon!
- This game isn't easy to get rich in but once you get the basics outlined here and keep following them, riches will follow. See my page The Trick to Getting Rich..
- Don't forget to keep maxing your pets!!!!!!

Example using Leather Armor
Above you can see the DEF bonus and approximate prices of the Leather Armor in our comparison. Its more cost effective and better for your character's defense to buy a Hippogriff Hide Armor for a DEF and then use DEF pots to max your DEF stat.
Instead of buying the Hydra Skin Armor, spend the 2 Life (Hydra) on 16 DEF pots. Use a Hippogriff for 12 DEF and the 16 DEF (from the 2 life) will give you a total of 28 DEF. Since your leather wearing class is using Hippogriff for a maximum of 41 DEF, you only need to add 13 more DEF and you are ready to rock.
Please don't spend your pots on top equipment until you have a least maxed DEF and some of the other stats.
