Pets have abilities
Pets are cool, some are cute, some not so much. Choosing a pet for some is about the cuteness factor. Other people may choose a pet based on the family. Others like myself choose the abilities first and then look for the pet that has those abilities. Having a pet with the right abilities can help you survive longer and play better. Whatever your motivation for having a pet is, having a little buddy following you around is kinda cool.
The Realmeye.com Wiki has a lot of very good information on pets and encourage you to read this.
The 2 or 3 pet abilities that changed the Game
There are 3 pet abilities that when used properly can help you survive longer and become much better offensively and defensively.
What about the other Pet Abilities?
Well, these have their places I suppose, but for me this game is all about surviving, getting good loot and for some becoming famous and or rich. These other abilities in my opinion should only be considered as the 3rd ability. When pets first came out I chose not to have electric ability because of Tombs. I however did chose to have Attack Close as my 3rd ability because it is the strongest of the 3 attack abilities. I also chose this as the third ability because the Decoy ability was not available when the pets first came out. I think that the Decoy ability being a non-attack and non-damaging ability is a very good alternative for doing tombs.
Planning for your Pet
For those like me that are cheap and don't want to spend too much real money. You will be using your Nexus Fame to upgrade your pet yard, fuse your pets and level your pets. You will find that your fame will get used up fast and you need to make sure you know which Pet family and Pet abilities you want to end up with. I strongly encourage you to read my guide on Starting from scratch, back to the basics as it has some very important information about planning for your pet.
There is no trick to getting the right pet with all 3 abilities that you want. It takes mostly luck and perseverance. But, if you want to have a certain ability as the first you need to check out the Pet Abilities page to see what families are guaranteed to have your choice as first.
Once you have decided on the pet family you are going to pursue then head to Godlands and kill Gods until you get the right egg. Eggs also drop from most (not sure if all) dungeons and Oryx as well. Go to your pet yard and hatch that egg. Check the pet for its abilities and if it does not have the 3 abilities in the correct order that you want head back out to Godlands and try again. Make sure that the abilities you want most are the first 2 abilities because it will take less time and cost less fame to get those. For example, if you really want Heal make sure that it is the first or second ability and your least important ability is last.
Oh man, I have no fame left for my pet
That is a problem many people are facing. Trying to upgrade your pet and you are out of Fame and you don't want to spend money. See my page on Starting from scratch, the pet strategy! I talk about planing for your pet, how to level and some other things you will need to think about. If you can't afford to spend real money to level your pet, just be patient, you will die soon enough! Don't give into the dark side by spending money to do it.
A very interesting tool
A fusing simulator created by Pfiffel shows what happens when you fuse your pets and the level cap you will get after you have fused your pets. It is not important to have the abilities correct but it is important to have the levels correct for the pets you are fusing. This simulator will show the result of fusing 2 pets of a rarity type and the level cap of the new rarity type. Try it out before you fuse if you are not planing to fuse pets that are maxed on their levels.
Level your pets damn it!
I see people all the time running around with pets that aren't leveled but they have tons of account fame to use. From time to time there are things that you can spend your fame on, but in my opinion there is nothing more important than spending your fame feeding your pet. Make sure you are feeding the highest power items that you can afford. If you have a bunch of pots it may be worth your while in trading them for high feed items.
The higher your pet's level the more it will Heal or MP Heal you and the more frequently it will do this. I know that there are other abilities but the Heal and MP Heal are the only ones that really matter (in my opinion).
I spent tons of pots buying feed items using my fame to level my Pet. Trust me having a very good healing pet is like having a Priest in your pocket willing to do your bidding at anytime.
Before pets if there wasn't a Priest around and you were out of HP pots you would either Nexus or find some safe spot to heal up. If you were in an Abyss and took a ton of damage, your options were limited to what you could do. Now, with a good healing pet, I just wait for 2 or 4 seconds and I am back in play.
A note about the Priest
In my opinion the pet abilities Heal and MP Heal have all but eliminated the Priest class. That is unfortunate because the Priest was always my backup when I was having a streak of deaths. It is so easy to survive on a Priest, especially when it is 4/8 or better.
But, nowadays a Priest with a pet that has Heal and MP Heal is more powerful than ever. With the recent changes to the Priest (Fall 2014) and the changes to the wands a Priest has better chances for soul bound than before. If you are lucky enough to get Holy Protection tome or the Purification tome then a Priest spamming Holy Protection Tome is going to be one very tough guy. Even if you do not have either of these 2 great tomes any other tome from the 2% and up if you are spamming it, will keep you in top form while you are cleaning house. Just keep healing but make sure you time your attacks with max MP first.

The 2 or 3 pet abilities that changed the Game
There are 3 pet abilities that when used properly can help you survive longer and become much better offensively and defensively.
- Pet ability Heal. If you have this ability as your first or second pet ability then its like having a Priest heal you a little bit every few seconds. As you level up this ability you will heal more and heal faster. This ability pretty much eliminates the need for a Priest.
- Pet ability MP Heal. If you have this ability as your first or second pet ability then it is refreshing your MP (mana points) a little bit every few seconds. At the lower levels this is just a tiny bit helpful but when you have leveled this ability to 30 or more it becomes very useful.
Imagine having a Rogue that is getting +15 MP refreshed every few seconds? A Rogue using a Cloak of Endless Twilight which has a cloak time of 5.5 seconds and a cool down of 6.5 seconds for a total of 12 seconds between uses. This means that your MP will be almost or completely refreshed before you Cloak again. At that rate you will never run out of MP again on your Rogue.
How about a Sorcerer with the same +15 MP using Fulmination Scepter? The Sorcerer can spam his ability and with the fast +15 MP refresh he is ready to go after 9 to 15 seconds with another blast. No longer waiting almost a minute between blasts once you empty your Mana Points. - Pet ability Electric. If you have this ability I recommend it to be the pets 3rd ability because in my opinion the first 2 above are the most important. BUT, please do not let me sway you if you feel different. The electric ability will paralyze and do some damage when it touches a monster or god. As the level of this ability increases the paralyze time and damage will increase.
- Why you should not use this ability. If you do Tomb of the Ancients, be aware that the paralyze ability will not work on the BES, NUT and GEB but make them reverse direction which is a bad thing.
- Why you should use this ability. When you are running away (retreating to a better offensive position, I never run away) if the God or monster touches your pet it will paralyze them allow you time to find a better offensive position.
- Why you should not use this ability. If you do Tomb of the Ancients, be aware that the paralyze ability will not work on the BES, NUT and GEB but make them reverse direction which is a bad thing.

- Check the wiki and review the Pet Families. Make sure that you look at all the graphics right up to the Divine rarity. You can choose your pet family but when the pet changes rarity level the graphics may change and you have no choice in the graphic so make sure you are reasonably happy with the pet images all the way to Divine. If you have my luck you will get the one you don't want.
- Once you have chosen the family you now have to decide how you are going to level your pet all the way to Divine rarity. Fame only? Real money only? A mix between Fame and Money? Currently Bluenoser's pet is Legendary with Heal=90, MP Heal=87, Attack Close=73. Its unlikely that I will go for the Divine pet, I think the Divine pets are too large and the Farm family I am using (I did not plan it out) has horrible looking Divine Pets.
- If you plan to max your levels in each rarity group then assuming you are using fame only you should feed your pets high Feed Power items to maximize your leveling and conserve your Fame. At each rarity level the cost of feeding your pet increases. Common = 10 Fame, Uncommon = 30 Fame, Rare = 100 Fame, Legendary = 350 Fame (damn), Divine = 1000 Fame (ouchy).
- The downside to not maxing your pet levels before fusing is a lower level cap on the next rarity group and more importantly now (as I show above) the cost of maxing your pet to its new level cap is greater than it was before. You will use your fame up faster for slower results.
- If maxing your pet levels before fusing and it is important to you and you want to do it at a faster rate, you will want to spend your items and pots on high feed power items. The most excellent web site Realmeye has a page showing the feed power of items in the game.

- Only the Common eggs can be traded, all other egg rarity groups are soul bound.
- Trade the eggs you don't want for eggs that you want or pots (typically SPD or DEX for common eggs).
- Try to buy the egg group that you want to help speed up your search for the pet with the abilities that you are looking for.
- If you get lucky enough to find an egg that is uncommon, rare or higher in the family you want, it will most likely NOT have the abilities that you want, But, it will be good to fuse to the pet that you want to keep to help get to the next rarity group. Don't forget to level it up before fusing though.
- If you find an uncommon or higher egg that is not in your egg family you may want to use it as feed to level your pet.
- Use the Pet release feature in the pet yard if you find that your pet yard is very crowded.
