Abyss of Demons
Generally, always go through the center of a doorway to avoid the monsters that are hiding against the walls and in the corners. Always keep your back to the door you just entered so you can backup while shooting the monsters chasing you. Never run into unexplored rooms with monsters chasing you. Once you get to the boss Archdemon Malphas you should first clear the White Demons then move in to take care of the boss.
There are 3 treasures rooms shown in the picture. You can only enter them from below.
Pot Drops Malphas- VIT
Item Drops Malphas - Demon Blade, Wine Cellar Incantation, Treasures
Pot Drops Treasure Room - VIT, DEF
Item Drops Treasure Room Idol - Demon Blade, Wine Cellar Incantation, Treasures, Devil Tarot Card
Level 15 to level 20 - no stats potted
The Abyss is a very hard dungeon to do solo if you are not potted. Its possible but will take you a very long time. Farming the Abyss with my unpotted Priest (no pets) was the beginning of my path to riches. When I started farming the Abyss, VIT was worth 2 DEF, so it was worth doing, even slowly. Now though I would recommend that unpotted players wait until they are either in groups or have at least maxed DEF.
Level 20 - at least DEF potted
A potted character with maxed DEF will have an easier time. Just take it one room at a time, don't rush so you do not get overwhelmed.
Tackling the Abyss of Demons
The Abyss of Demons is one of the harder standard dungeons and its one we all should learn. This dungeon is the primary source of VIT and it also drops (rarely) the Demon Blade aka DBlade. The Treasure Rooms (trooms) also will drop a DEF and VIT with a chance for the DBlade. The Abyss is also a good source of fame, depending on how many monsters you kill you get up to 5 fame.
Mastering the Abyss is good for your aiming, dodging and watching your health skills. Becoming proficient here will give you the means to do well at many of the other dungeons in the game.
Trooms can be found
Check out how to find Trooms in the Abyss.
Abyss the adventure
Even though its possible to do the Abyss using unpotted classes, I would highly recommend that you max your DEF first then pot some DEX, SPD and ATT to help you get through this dungeon easier and quicker. You can attempt the Abyss unpotted but it will take a long time to complete specially if you are solo. This guide assumes you have some of your stats potted. I also recommend that you use a Healing and MP Healing pet which contribute greatly to keeping you alive. Keeping a stash of HP and MP pots on your character is always a good idea.
There are basically 3 types of monsters in the Abyss
Dangers in the Abyss
The Boss Room
Doing Abyss Solo
As soon you enter the Abyss, quickly check to see how many exits there are from the starting room. Be aware that if you enter the Abyss sometimes it puts you right beside one of the exits and the monsters will chase you down fast.
Doing Abyss with others
Assuming you are potted DEF at least.
If you have a short range weapon stay with the leaders and help clear. If you are medium range weapon then stay behind the melees and help clear anything that you can, anything that gets by the melees finish it off or leave it behind. Longer range will stay at the back or perhaps in the middle of the group as you can protect the melees by killing off the larger groups. See below for class specific information.
Once in the boss room watch the other players on your mini-map. You will find that many people will rush the boss to get their soul bound shots in. If you are late then you could miss out entirely. If they rush the boss then join in.
Doing Abyss with Advanced Players
Notes on Classes:
Knight - with maxed DEF they can tank their way through. Let groups of enemies gather for the stun, then finish them off. This guy with practice can be an expert rusher, just be aware of dead ends and the horde of your little red friends following you.
Warrior - needs to be careful of their speed boost but their berserk advantage makes taking down the monsters very easy.
Warrior with Juggernaut - Wow is really all I can say. This guy can rush and tank his way (keep Jugg active!!!) to the boss very quickly laughing all the way.
Rogue - Can move through the masses easily while cloaked but when cloak disappears you need to make sure you can either clear your enemies out or move by them. Rushing with a Rogue can be very scary experience. When your cloak is finished you have about 1 second of cool down before you can cloak again this is when everything orients on you. Its a good way to get dead but with practice and a steadfast determination you can rush very very fast to the boss. I highly recommend the bone dagger for its piercing. Use it when cloaked and switch to your regular dagger for the boss' tiny and biggest phase. If you have a Plane Walker then your rush can be quicker and allowing you to jump over walls when you realize you just dead ended.
Sorcerer & Fulmination - Piercing and slow are an incredible combination. Using a maxed sorcerer with these items, I can move through an Abyss almost as fast as a melee class.
Sorcerer - Any scepter will help keep the monsters at bay, as you approach a room and see the first greebly hit the scepter and fire away. The sorcerer is at his best and a minion rich environment.
Assassin with Plague - The poison of choice here is Plague if you have it. Plague has a huge area effect that poisons monsters across walls into other rooms. Chuck your poison into a room as far as you can then wait one second and follow it. The monsters are greatly weakened and can be finished quickly with your dagger.
Assassin - Chuck poison just past the doorway dead center to weaken and then move in and finish them with the dagger.
Archer - The better the bow the faster they fall, piercing is great. The best 3 shot bow you can afford will help. The CBow is very good as well if you are lucky enough to have one. Not recommended to use a Doom bow until you get to the Boss. At the boss, switch to the Doom bow if you have it. Just before the boss switches to his smallest size paralyze the boss while shooting him, count to 3 then paralyze again, repeat until the boss is dead.
Huntress - The better the bow the faster they fall, piercing is great. The best 3 shot bow you can afford will help. The CBow is very good as well if you are lucky enough to have one. The Huntress has a fantastic ability but I find it is amazing that almost no one keeps the T0 trap. The T0 trap has a very low MP usage so it can be spammed. As you make your way through the Abyss chuck the traps into the doorways, past the doorways, into the rooms, everywhere. The monsters come at you slow and you take them down with the bow. Not recommended to use a Doom bow until you get to the Boss. At the boss, switch to the Doom bow if you have it. If you are lucky enough to have the UT Trap Coral Venom which paralyzes switch to that and chuck it just before the boss switches to his smallest form and take him down with the Doom Bow if you have it.
Trickster - Using a T5 or T6 prism and sending the decoy off to the side of a room allows you to come up behind and finish the red devils off. Switch to a bone dagger to hit groups and remove them quicker. A Dancing prism is handy allowing 2 decoys and no TP. It is possible to use a T0 to rush your way to the boss but can be heart pounding.
Wizard - The high fire rate and DPS of your staff will mow down the minions. For groups let blast your spell to weaken and finish them off.
Mystic - Use T5 or T6 orbs and use berserk and curse to your advantage. For the larger groups stasis them and kill them at your leisure. If you have the Orb of Sweet Demise which cast slow you will be able to handle the groups easier.
Necromancer - Switch to a T3 skull for lower MP usage. Use skull when needed for the healing not for damaging unless you have become excellent at dodging.
Necromancer with Esben skull - This skull uses a lot of MP but casts slow as well as HP leaching and I would normally only suggest it if you have a good MP healing pet. Slow is something that is very nice in the Abyss.
Priest - The piercing Wands can really take out the Abyss minions quickly, your healing allows you to take the damage. Take your time, do a room, heal up, repeat. Way way back, this was the class I first used to farm the Abyss. I did it without a potted character (there were no pets) and usually solo. With a Tome of Holy Guidance or the Book of Geb it is possible to rush with practice. Time your rush to start with a healing from the damage you received during the last rush
Priest with Tome of Holy Protection - Wow, a maxed Priest with Prot can rush and tank his way to the boss pretty easily. Just be careful of the dead ends and the red tax collectors chasing you. Activate Prot as you enter a room, rush through the rooms firing behind you with your piercing wand reducing the followers (we aren't setting up a cult of blind followers now are we). Watch your health, keep moving to the boss.
Paladin - Unpotted, this guy is not a tank but with careful use of his ability, he can move fairly easily to the boss. If he is 4/8 or better and you have a decent MP healing pet you can rush the Abyss pretty darn fast. Time your ability make sure to always keep the ability going but don't run out of MP before you get to the boss. When rushing it is desirable to fire behind you killing off the chasers as you only go slightly faster than your stinky followers.
Ninja - this guy is really, really good. His piercing weapon mows down the greeblies fast. Move into a room then let them chase him while slicing and dicing as he backs up. If you are lucky enough to get a Doku Katana then you will find that you don't need to be as accurate as the red horde falls on your blade. I am not a fan of the Ray Katana but if you have it and you like the extra safety due to the longer range you will find it useful here.

I also recommend that you use a Healing and MP Healing pet which contribute greatly to keeping you alive. Keeping a stash of HP and MP pots on your character is always a good idea.
There are basically 3 types of monsters in the Abyss
- The first, is one that has black ears and is the least dangerous, but having said that, it will kill you if you are not careful. This is the only one that will not chase you down, so if you leave a room it will basically stay in the room you left it in. It will dodge and move erratically making it harder to kill quickly. This one is very difficult for most unpotted classes to kill.
- The second has white eyes and will chase you down very fast, firing white shots that are sort of weak but a mob of these guys will kill you fast. These guys seem to be just slightly faster than most unpotted classes. So you will have to run straight away from them firing as you go or circle them firing at them to finish them off.
- The third type has yellow eyes and fires yellow bullets. There are 2 types of these, one fires slow heavy damage bullets and the other fires smaller faster medium damage bullets. These guys will follow you from room to room and these are the ones you should always concentrate on killing first. BUT, if they lose sight of you then they will stop chasing you. Hide around corners to break off their attacks. If you watch their movement and shots you can actually anticipate where they will shoot and avoid it. They will kill a character with max DEF very quickly.
Dangers in the Abyss
- Lava damage bypasses your defense. The longer you are in it the more damage you take. Lava damage is actually lower damage than what most monsters will do to you. It sometimes is smarter to run through a little bit of lava taking that damage while avoiding a horde of critters bearing down on you.
- When entering a room, many of the monsters hide around corners or against the walls. It is wiser to step into a room and then back out of it facing the monsters as they chase you down.
- Most of the monsters you encounter are in groups which makes them very dangerous, never keep moving forward into new uncleared rooms once they start to chase you. Always retreat to cleared areas shooting at the greeblies as they chase you.
- When you enter a room and there are multiple exits to that room never walk by an exit to another room without at least first making sure there are no monsters that can see you. If the monsters can see you they will chase you down. Let them chase you back through rooms that you have cleared while you are shooting them.
- Another tactic is back into a cleared room and run in wide a circle while shooting at the monsters. By doing this they can't target you and you easily finish them off.
The Boss Room
- The boss room will of course have the boss Archdemon Malphas and 6 White Demons. There are always 6 white Demons.
- The White Demons guard the boss. When you kill them they have a chance to drop the ATT pot. These guys are dangerous as they fire armor piercing shots. Its safer to kill the White Demons before attacking the boss.
- If you are in the Abyss solo, you should always clear the white demons. Stay on the outer path, don't more more than one character width off the path toward the boss because if you do, you can activate the boss early.
- If there is a white demon that is hanging close to the boss, then make sure it sees you and move slowly back to the wall of the room. This will drag the white demon to you. You want to do this so that when you kill the demon, if it drops an ATT pot you can get it without activating the boss.
Doing Abyss Solo
As soon you enter the Abyss, quickly check to see how many exits there are from the starting room. Be aware that if you enter the Abyss sometimes it puts you right beside one of the exits and the monsters will chase you down fast.
- Most of the Abyss monsters will try chase you down so its important that when you encounter them it is to your advantage and not theirs.
- When approaching a new room always move to be dead center of the doorway and not to the side of a door.
- When encountering monsters in the Abyss never move forward or into an unexplored room trying to get away from them. When retreating from attacking monsters you should always move into a previously cleared room. Much much safer.
- 1 step forward and 2 steps back, this is your motto while in an Abyss, live it.
- The trick is to get the minions attention and have them chase you as you back away into the previous cleared rooms while shooting into them.
- If you find that your health is getting low take some time and regenerate then keep moving.
- Once you reach the Boss room you want to travel around the outside path and kill the White Demons.
- Do not move off the path towards the Boss until the 6 White Demons are killed.
- If you move towards the Boss at anytime it will activate the Boss and start his attack cycle. It is to your advantage to not activate the boss until the White Demons are finished.
- Once the Whites are finished, stop on the path and wait until your MANA is full again. Then pick a spot that has solid ground around the boss and move in. Moving in will activate the boss' attack pattern.
- When you first get to the boss he will be invincible (lasts about 2 seconds, check to see if he has a small blue shield above his head), Once that phase is gone he can be hurt for a few seconds.
- As soon as the Boss is about to change to the small version he will move away from you. He will take damage in this phase, pound on him but watch for and evade his weakness shot.
- Always watch the top of his head for the blue shield. Don't use your ability if the boss has the blue shield above his head.
- If you are taking too much damage then back off to the edges, he won't follow. Come back when you are recovered.
- Repeat until he is dead.
Doing Abyss with others

If you are medium range weapon then stay behind the melees and help clear anything that you can, anything that gets by the melees finish it off or leave it behind. Doing Abyss with Advanced Players
- Many advanced players resent it when people hang around the starting area waiting for them to get to the boss. If you are that type of player then be prepared for them coming back at you with a horde of demons hot on their butt trying to kill you. If you join an Abyss I am in you should at least try to help.
- Another tactic that you need to be aware of, is the advanced Rogues, Warriors, Knights and sometimes Paladins that are rushing solo to the boss. These guys may be killing very few of the monsters that they encounter and are instead dragging 50 or more of them to the boss room. If you TP (teleport) to this person once he reaches the boss room you will be overrun by the monsters he is dragging and most likely die.
- To solve both of these problems you should try to keep up with the advanced players as they move through the dungeons.
- Be aware that some people as they are rushing may stop in a dead end room and FALSELY call Troom. You may TP into a ton of monsters causing you to die or nexus. This is becoming a technique to get rid of leachers.
Notes on Classes:
Knight - with maxed DEF they can tank their way through. Let groups of enemies gather for the stun, then finish them off. This guy with practice can be an expert rusher, just be aware of dead ends and the horde of your little red friends following you.
